EuCNC & 6G Summit 2025

The 2025 EuCNC & 6G Summit builds on putting together two successful conferences in the area of telecommunications: EuCNC (European Conference on Networks and Communications), supported by the European Commission, and the 6G Summit, originated from the 6G Flagship programme in Finland, one of the very first in its area. The conference is sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) and the European Association on Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP), and focuses on all aspects of telecommunications ranging from 5G deployment and mobile IoT to 6G exploration and future communications systems and networks, including experimentation and testbeds, and applications and services. It brings together cutting-edge research and world-renown industries and businesses, globally attracting in the last years more than 1000 delegates from more than 40 countries all over the world, to present and discuss the latest results, and an exhibition with more than 50 exhibitors, for demonstrating the technology developed in the area, namely within research projects from EU R&I programmes.

The conference has a not-for-profit organisation, hence, registration fees are as low as possible and all surplus will be made available in grants.  Best Papers and Booth Awards will be granted. Accepted and presented papers for regular sessions will be published in the Conference Proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore and other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases.

2nd Workshop on MetaOS for the Cloud-Edge-IoT Continuum (MECC…

The 2nd Workshop on MetaOS for the Cloud-Edge-IoT Continuum (MECC 2025) will be co-hosted at the ACM EuroSys 2025 that will be held from March 30 to April 3, 2025, in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Through a series of technical presentations, interactive sessions, and panel discussions, this workshop will address critical issues such as interoperability, standardization, and contribution to relevant open-source projects. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, share research findings, and collaborate on innovative solutions to advance the field of MetaOS.

“NETWORK AND SERVICE MANAGEMENT ADVANCEMENTS” White Paper

Software has emerged as an essential part of mobile telecommunication networks for the efficient and effective operation of the 5G and 6G systems. This trend is evident in several network processes, among others in network programmability, management and security,
while it has enabled automation in service and resource management processed with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) mechanisms. A key role for enabling programmability in telecommunication is played by Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and frameworks. Indeed, APIs are considered as the main way to harvest and expose the capabilities of 6G networks. On the one hand, APIs enable standardized, seamless interaction between software components and network services, supporting features like capability exposure, edge computing, AI/ML, and integration of other technology domains like cloud computing, data analytics and Internet of Things. APIs facilitate the integration of complex 6G use cases, enhancing interoperability and supporting dynamic service creation and management. On the other hand, API frameworks provide reusable components that address network programmability, scalability, intelligent operations, and security. They accelerate the development of high-performance use cases for 6G by ensuring consistent and structured solutions. Frameworks are essential for managing the dynamic, scalable nature of 6G networks and driving innovation. In the network management domain, 6G networks are poised to revolutionize the telecommunications landscape by intelligently supporting a vast number of simultaneous and heterogeneous network slices tailored to various vertical use cases. However, this advancement brings forth challenges related to scalability and sustainability, particularly in the deployment of AI-driven zero-touch Management and Orchestration (MANO) of End-toEnd (E2E) slices under stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs). To address these challenges, next-generation networks will incorporate mechanisms at multiple levels to optimize resource allocation for enhanced service management. Several enablers have been identified that support the challenges. In the context of security in 6G networks, a wide range of topics is considered, including but not-limited to Secure Onboarding, SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response)-enhanced 6G Orchestration, Decentralized Security Analytics, Remote Attestation, Privacy-Aware Orchestration, Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) Sharing and Trustworthiness assessment of network components. All These elements collectively contribute to a secure and trustworthy 6G network environment, while safeguarding user privacy and responding effectively to emerging threats. Software, with APIs, frameworks, enablers, as well as advanced and tailored security, transforms 6G into a dynamic, intelligent, and secure platform capable of meeting the
demands of future applications. These elements collectively drive innovation, scalability, and reliability while ensuring that 6G networks remain adaptable and resilient in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

“A User-Centric Perspective of 6G Networks: A Survey” Journal…

The SAFE-6G Journal Paper entitled “A User-Centric Perspective of 6G Networks: A Survey” is now available.

6G currently stands at the forefront of wireless communications research, offering numerous enhancements over previous generations. New key performance indicators (KPIs) have been defined, including microsecond-level latency and increased data transmission capacity. These advancements are expected to catalyze the development of immersive applications such as the metaverse, digital twins, and Industry 6.0 technologies. To achieve these KPIs, emerging technologies like edge computing, THz communications, and cell-free systems must be leveraged. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are anticipated to play a crucial role in optimizing 6G networks while enhanced security and privacy, both in infrastructure and user communications, are also key considerations. Current research suggests a shift towards a more user-centric network architecture, tailored to individual user requirements, in contrast to the service-oriented approach of 5G. This survey article aims to shed light on this user-centric concept by comprehensively reviewing the various aspects of 6G network architecture from a user-centric perspective.

SNS Working Groups

The SNS JU Working Groups (WGs) facilitate cross-project collaboration among representatives of ongoing SNS JU projects, aiming to create synergies and consolidate efforts. These groups regularly publish their findings in white papers and other forums. Projects can join an SNS JU WG by contacting the respective WG Chairperson. The WGs include the 6G Architecture WG, Reliable Software Network WG, Test, Measurement, and KPIs Validation WG, and Hardware Technologies WG. They serve as platforms for exchanging ideas, addressing technological challenges, and shaping a unified European perspective on 6G development.

Each WG focuses on specific domains. The Architecture WG consolidates architectural concepts for 6G, promoting discussions and dissemination of results. The Reliable Software Network WG addresses software networking trends, cloud-native designs, and AI/ML integration. The Test, Measurement, and Validation WG standardizes methodologies for KPI/KVI testing and lifecycle management, supporting 6G trials. Lastly, the Hardware Technologies WG explores advanced components, materials, and chipsets critical for 6G adoption, fostering collaboration across SNS and global initiatives to build a robust 6G hardware roadmap.
